The Coca Cola bottling site in Armenia was successfully audited by Control Union earlier this year. As a result Control Union is glad to announce the issuance of its first AWS (Alliance for Water Stewardship) certificate.
According to Christoph Speck, the General Manager of the Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company Armenia, "Water stewardship is at the heart of the Coca-Cola system, and we have worked hard to integrate it across every aspect of our business. Water is a key priority, not only within the premises of our plant but also in the communities in which we operate. For Coca-Cola HBC Armenia, AWS certification is an important achievement on our water stewardship journey and a recognition of our relentless efforts."
Mrs. Sona Harutyunyan, the Management System & Environmental Programs Coordinator of Coca Cola Hellenic Bottling Armenia, states that; “We are very happy with the AWS certification and are proud of our team who contributed to get here”.
Mr. Bunny Azmi, AWS certifier and scheme coordinator at Control Union added; ' Control Union is thrilled to be able to contribute to the sustainable ambitions of Coca Cola and are expecting, more sites to follow their example' .
With the application of the AWS standard at a site, one can work towards environmentally sustainable, socially equitable and economically beneficial water use. The standard outlines requirements on how one should manage water at a site level and how water management shall be stewarded beyond the boundaries of a site.
Sustainable water usage is a topic with an increasing attention at all fields. The AWS can be applied on industrial as well as agricultural sites without any limitation on the scope of activity, therefor it might provide a sustainable solution for any actor.
Control Union invested in increasing its AWS auditor capacity to be able to serve applicants worldwide.
