COSMOS (Cosmetic Organic Standard) is a worldwide private standard. COSMOS adheres to principles such as promoting the use of ingredients from organic farming, using production and manufacturing processes that are environmentally sound and safe for human health and including and expanding the concept of 'green chemicals'.
The standard divides the type of ingredients used in cosmetic products into five categories and specifies the requirements for each. Companies must also ensure that their packaging is minimized, environmentally friendly and they must have an environmental and waste management plan for their factories.
