EWS - European Water Stewardship

Control Union Certifications (CUC) is engaged in sustainable water usage and since 2010 has been a member of the steering committee of the European Water Stewardship (EWS). CUC was involved in development of the standard and certification scheme and the first certification body to be approved for EWS.

The European Water Stewardship (EWS) is coordinated by the European Water Partnership and operates within the context of EU policies on resource efficiency in line with the ‘European blueprint’.

Audits are carried out by our global network of qualified and experienced auditors. Furthermore, we can provide information on the standard and compliance requirements.

For sectors committed to water management, EWS implementation is a practical tool for improving sustainable water use with technical advice, risk assessment and implementation of strategic improvements. The standard can be applied in various sectors, including agriculture, industry or service providers.

The EWS standard is built around:

  • Sustainable water extraction
  • Good water status
  • High Conservation Value areas
  • Water governance
