Control Union UK join forces with Responsible Plastic Management to help businesses fight plastic waste

Control Union has been appointed as an approved Certification Body (CB) for the Responsible Plastic Management (RPM) Program, allowing organisations taking positive steps towards reduction, reuse and recycling of plastic to benefit from the RPM trust mark.

From food wrapping to clothes, beauty products to PPE, plastics pervade in countless aspects of our day to day lives. Millions of tonnes of plastic are wasted each year - ending up in landfill, burned or polluting the environment.

RPM is a not-for-profit social enterprise established in 2019 to support businesses in their plastic waste management efforts. It does this through training, an assurance programme, trust mark and online resources.

Peter Marshall Chair of the RPM Program said: ”The RPM Program is a global and cross sector program and therefore needs credible global Certification Bodies. We are delighted to have Control Union come onboard as an approved Certification Body Partner, especially as they have already established themselves as a leader in plastic, environmental and recycling certifications. Control Union’s reputation and extensive geographic presence will further strengthen the standing and outreach of the RPM Program”.

Control Union UK provides supply chain sustainability solutions across the globe, with expertise in sectors from food and agriculture to textiles and timber. As part of their commitment to environmental sustainability they are delighted to be able to offer certification under the RPM trust mark.

Franco Costantini, MD of Control Union UK said: “We are very excited to start working with RPM and to be able to support businesses to journey towards a better management of plastics. The RPM program focuses on continuous improvement and it is key in completing our group of environmental certifications (from recycled to plastic free).”

In order to meet the RPM criteria, businesses must have a process moving towards a circular plastic economy, with the aim of eliminating non-recyclable single-use plastic and moving towards a model where plastic materials and products are designed to be reused, recycled or composted.

Once the criteria are successfully met, businesses can gain verification for their efforts through engaging Control Union to deliver an audit and issue a certification. This allows them to use the RPM trust mark on their products or promotional materials. This brings  several tangible benefits for businesses including a competitive advantage when selling to environmentally conscious customers, reduced costs associated with the production and use of plastics, and protection for their brand as awareness of the plastics crisis continues to pervade politics, policy and the public consciousness.

Businesses who want to improve their use of plastics and gain the benefits of the RPM trust mark can call +44 (0)20 7488 2210 or email responsibleplastic@controlunion.com at Control Union to find out more.
