Sri Lanka organic agriculture

The standard of requirements for Sri Lanka organic agriculture production and processing (SLS 1324:2018) is based on the four principles of health, ecology, fairness and care. This inspires the organic movement in its full diversity.

These principles are to be used in a holistic manner to optimize the productivity and fitness of diverse communities living within the agroecosystem and also ensure social, ecological and economic sustainability. It also indicates that organic agriculture in Sri Lanka could be built upon the rich heritage of indigenous knowledge combined with modern science, technologies and practices.

SLS 1324:2018 is the first revision of the standard. It has been published with the purpose of promoting organic agriculture and enhancing market competitiveness in Sri Lanka by providing an uniform approach to the requirements on conversion, production, handling, processing, labeling and marketing.
